Court Notice

LASC: DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES CIVIC CENTER COURTHOUSES AND COURT FACILITIES CLOSED FRIDAY, NOV. 1, AS A RESULT OF STREET CLOSURES CAUSED BY LOS ANGELES DODGERS’ WORLD SERIES VICTORY PARADE AND IN ANTICIPATION OF SIGNIFICANT CROWDS

As a result of street closures, significant crowds and traffic congestion anticipated in the Downtown Los Angeles Civic Center area resulting from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ victory parade, the following Los Angeles County courthouses and facilities will be closed Friday, Nov. 1:

  • Stanley Mosk Courthouse at 111 N. Hill St.
  • Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center at 210 W. Temple St.
  • Superior Court departments at the Spring Street Courthouse at 312 N. Spring St.
  • Superior Court Archives and Records Center at 222 N. Hill St., Room 212.

Because of the street closures surrounding these courthouses and the Hall of Records beginning at 4:00 a.m., it will not be possible for anyone to get to or access these buildings. Regular court operations at these locations will resume on Monday, Nov. 4. For real-time information about the current state of court operations impacted by this temporary closure, court users and the legal community are encouraged to visit the Court’s Temporary Information Center. See below for further information.

Court Proceedings

All matters scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1 in the impacted courthouses listed above will be continued or rescheduled, with parties receiving notice from the Court or counsel regarding new dates. Time-sensitive criminal cases will be transferred to the Central Arraignment Courthouse or the East Los Angeles Courthouse. The Court will provide counsel with notice.

Restraining Orders

Individuals seeking restraining orders may visit any courthouse that hears Family Law matters not impacted by the closure to file a restraining order. Individuals with restraining order hearings on Friday, Nov. 1 will be mailed continuances (Form 116), extending temporary restraining orders, with new hearing dates.

Self-Help Centers

Those seeking in-person self-help assistance are encouraged to visit any of the Court’s Self-Help Centers not impacted by the closure. A complete list of Self-Help Center locations and hours can be found here.

Filing

Electronic filing services will remain available at www.lacourt.org. Parties with statutory filing deadlines that fall on Nov. 1 who are authorized to file pleadings and documents at a filing window rather than electronically file may file in person at any other courthouse location not impacted by the closure.

Jury Service

Jurors currently serving on trials in the impacted courthouses will be notified of their continuance dates by the Court. Criminal grand jurors scheduled to appear at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center are advised to appear on Monday, Nov. 4 instead of Friday, Nov. 1.
