MANDATORY ELECTRONIC FILING FOR REPRESENTED PARTIES WHEN CARE COURT LAUNCHES ON DECEMBER 1
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County will implement the Community Assistance, Recovery & Empowerment (CARE) Act on December 1, 2023. The CARE Act created a new voluntary civil court process, commonly referred to as CARE Court, to provide mental health and other support services to eligible adults impacted by a specific class of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
Judge Rene C. Gilbertson and Judge Scott H. Herin will preside over CARE Court cases in Department Z and Department B, respectively, at the Norwalk Courthouse, 12720 Norwalk Blvd., Norwalk.
The Court will accept CARE Court filings beginning on December 1, 2023. Pursuant to General Order 2023-GEN-022-00, the Presiding Judge has ordered that electronic filing (efiling) of CARE Court documents be mandatory for all attorneys in CARE Court cases. Efiling provides efficiency and enhances the Court’s ability to maintain complete and easily accessible records. Registration with an Electronic Filing Service Provider (ESFP) is required to efile. Self-represented litigants will also be able to efile their documents or may file them in person at any of the filing locations listed at https://www.lacourt.org/CARE/#map. Additional information regarding the upcoming implementation of CARE Court is available at www.LACourt.org/CARE.
